If you struggle to fit in a healthy and filling breakfast on busy mornings, you’re not alone- and I’m here to help!
Hi, I'm Janessa!
You might know me from my other blog, The Nessy Kitchen, where I share a variety of meals ideas and oat flour treats.

Cooking has always been a passion of mine, and I’ve spent years learning about nutrition and creating delicious, whole-food-based recipes.
But despite my love for food and developing recipes, I struggled for a long time with breakfast. Working full time in healthcare, I needed to have a breakfast to fuel my busy day but struggled to come up with tasty breakfast ideas to fit in before my work day that didn't leave me starving by 9 AM.
But throughout the years, I've worked to come up with breakfasts that prioritize fibre and protein and actually keep me full and energized- and I created this blog to share them with you!
While I believe that food is more than its nutrition facts, I aim for the following with my breakfast recipes (and the recipes that I share fit most if not all of these goals!):
- 15g+ protein (and often more)
- 6g+ fiber
- Mainly whole-food ingredients
- A serving of vegetables and/or fruits
- Quick & easy for busy mornings or make-ahead
If you’re a working professional (or just a busy person) looking for healthy, satisfying breakfasts, you are in the right place!
What Busy Morning Breakfast is About
This blog is your one-stop shop for healthy breakfasts that fit into and fuel real, busy lives.
Whether you:
- Struggle to find quick breakfast options that keep you full
- Need make-ahead ideas to simplify your mornings
- Want packable breakfasts for work or school
- Feel stuck in a rut with boring, repetitive meals
I’ve got you covered with:
- Make-ahead breakfast recipes
- Grab-and-go ideas for busy mornings
- Quick weekday breakfast recipes you can whip up in 10 minutes or less
- High protein breakfast ideas that often don't require protein powder
What you won’t find here:
- Fussy, time-consuming recipes (we’re not spending 20 minutes perfecting scrambled eggs on a Monday morning!)
- Gourmet, restaurant-style breakfasts (while I love a good brunch, this is about realistic meals for busy mornings)
- Nutrition advice (Nutrition is complex, nuanced and individual. These recipes are here to serve as inspiration, not as a one-size-fits-all approach. I share what works for me, but if you need personalized guidance, I always recommend working with a registered nutrition professional.)
I want to help you get a filling breakfast in without overcomplicating it.
My Food Philosophy
I’m not a nutrition professional, but I love learning about nutrition and applying it to my own life so you'll find it is reflected in my recipes.
1. Whole Foods First
I prioritize using whole and minimally processed ingredients whenever possible. While most of my recipes rely on whole food protein sources, I occasionally use quality protein powder isolate as a convenient way to boost protein in a recipe .
I also recognize the convenience of using some prepared foods (such as pre-made hummus or tortillas) to create a balanced meal and you'll occasionally find these types of ingredients in my recipes as well!
2. Balanced
My recipes emphasize the inclusion of protein and fiber along with healthy fats, carbohydrates and micronutrients. Everyone’s needs are different, so I encourage you to use the recipes as inspiration and adapt them to what works best for you.
3. Practical & Realistic
In a perfect world, we’d all have access to local, organic food and the time to make everything from scratch. But real life doesn’t always work that way! I believe in doing the best you can with what you have, such as buying budget-friendly ingredients or relying on some shortcuts.
4. Sustainable
Healthy eating should be something you can maintain long-term- not a short-term, rigid approach. My goal is to make balanced breakfasts both easy and enjoyable so they’re something you’ll actually want to eat, day after day.
5. Nutrition by Addition
Rather than focusing on what to cut out, I try to focus on what I can add to make recipes more balanced and satisfying. With these breakfasts, I’m always looking for ways to incorporate things like protein, fiber or an extra serving of vegetables.
